ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES

COLLEGIATE RIFLE COACHES ASSOCIATION

The Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association met March 13, 1999 in Northfield, VT.

I. Call to Order -- CRCA President Randy Pitney, called the meeting to order at approximately 4:00 p.m.

A. Roll Call -- CRCA Secretary Marsha Beasley, called roll. Eleven members were in attendance representing 10 institutions. Karen Anthony, University of Nebraska; Marsha Beasley, West Virginia University; George Brenzovich, University of Texas El Paso; Justin Broughton, U.S. Air Force Academy; Doug Clark, U.S. Military Academy; Gary DeBoy, Jacksonville State University; Joe Frerich, Murray State University; Elvis Green, Murray State University; Alan Joseph, Xavier University; Randy Pitney, University of Alaska Fairbanks; and Edie Reynolds representing Keith Miller, North Carolina State University; attended. Dan Durben, USA Shooting and Margaret Schoap, National Rifle Association also attended. Paul Benneche, University of Virginia; Valerie Boothe, University of Mississippi; Mike Hourigan, Norwich University; and Jim Thorp, Virginia Military Institute; were not able to attend due to the rescheduling of the meeting from March 11 to March 13.

B. Approval of Meeting Minutes -- George Brenzovich made a motion, seconded by Joe Frerichs to accept the minutes of the 1998 meeting as printed. The motion passed without objection.

C. Report of the Treasurer -- A written report was distributed to all attendees (copy attached). CRCA Treasurer Marsha Beasley reported that current funds were $1,076.36 rather than the $925 stated in the written report as 13 coaches had paid 97-98 dues since the report was written and three had paid for 1998-99. In addition a $8.64 expense had been incurred in postage.

II. Old Business

A. CRCA Coach of the Year nominees -- Randy Pitney and Elvis Green were nominated. A motion was made, seconded and approved to close the nominations.

B. CRCA Awards Program -- Marsha Beasley presented an update on the awards. She indicated that Ken Hamil had forwarded a clock for the Coach of the Year. She indicated that a list of nominees received to date for All-Academic honorees had been compiled and that coaches could still submit nominations.

Randy Pitney asked for suggestions as to when to have the CRCA awards ceremony. After discussing the pros and cons of various options it was agreed to hold the awards immediately after the NCAA awards.

C. CRCA Ranking and Website -- After discussion of the website and alternative ways to compile rankings Doug Clark made a motion, seconded by Justin Broughton, to offer to pay Michael Ray, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, $150 to do the website and ranking and if he declines to approach Oleg Seleznev to see if he will do the ranking in addition to the website. The motion passed without objection.

Women’s Rifle Survey - Copies of the results of the survey on women’s rifle were distributed. The attendees suggested the survey be distributed to the membership with comments requested.

D. Other Old Business --

No other old business was brought up.

III. New Business

A. Resolution of Appreciation -- The CRCA unanimously passed a resolution to thank Mike Hourigan and everyone at Norwich University for Norwich University for hosting the 1999 NCAA Rifle Championships.

B. USA Shooting – Dan Durben, National Rifle Coach, addressed the members present. He asked how USA Shooting can help college programs. He indicated USA Shooting is interested in doing more to benefit shooters and coaches and that USA Shooting was working closely with NRA on several projects.

C. NRA - Margaret Schoap, National Rifle Association, reported that the NRA was going to be changing the sectional awards to return to the glass mugs, medallions and wooden plaques that had been used in past years. She reported that the All-American book had been printed.

D. NCAA Committee – CRCA members were encouraged to contact the NCAA Committee members to express suggestions concerning the schedule for the NCAA Championships.

IV. Election of Officers and Executive Committee

Gary DeBoy made a motion, seconded by George Brenzovich to elect Randy Pitney as CRCA president. The motion was approved.

Elvis Green made a motion to elect George Brenzovich as CRCA vice-president. The motion was properly seconded and approved.

Marsha Beasley made a motion that Paul Benneche be elected CRCA secretary/treasurer. The motion was properly seconded and approved.

A motion was made to elect Alan Joseph and Gary DeBoy to the Executive Committee. The motion was properly seconded and approved.

Marsha Beasley made a motion to adjourn. The motion was properly seconded and approved unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 6:18 p.m.

In order to be eligible for the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association All-Academic Honor list, students must be varsity letter winners at their university or college and have completed at least 12 semester hours during the fall semester and be enrolled in at least 12 hours during spring semester and have a fall semester grade point average of 3.2 (4.0 scale) or better OR a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better. Coaches must be paid members of the CRCA for athletes to be recognized.
