English as a Second Language

The Center for ESL assists students in achieving their language proficiency goals for academic, professional, and social purposes.

GLBTQ Student Support

Identifying as LBGTQ does not require treatment, however, counseling can help students address questions and concerns about their sexuality. The UKCC strives to create an atmosphere of openness, trust, and safety where all attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviors can be openly shared and explored.  The Center takes a stance against discrimination and oppression and can help individuals who have suffered due to negative treatment and lack of acceptance by others.

Intern Abroad

Education Abroad at UK offers dozens of programs through which students can have an international internship.

International Education Experiences

Study abroad programs offer students the opportunity to enroll in academic coursework abroad that complements coursework here at UK

K Book Editorial Board

The K Book Editorial Board writes and designs UK’s new student handbook every year, advising new Wildcats on everything from how to study to where to eat on campus. The Editorial Board is made up of ten students who meet weekly throughout the school year. New members of the board are selected every spring.

K Crew

Every spring up to 500 students are selected to serve as K Crew leaders for UK’s new students.  Each K Crew member leads and mentors a K Team of approximately 10 new students during K Week and throughout the school year.  During K Week, K Crew leaders facilitate five different meetings as well as take their K Teams to various programs and events.  During the year, K Crew leaders work with their K Teams to make sure their transition to UK is a successful one.  This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our new students and have fun doing so!  Students who have been on K Crew for at least a year can apply to join the Super Crew, a mid-level K Week leadership position. Those who have served on Super Crew are eligible to apply for the top K Week leadership position, K Crew Coordinators. These two students hold an 18-month paid position in which they recruit, select, train, and supervise the Super Crew and K Crew. They also help plan and implement K Week and oversee the yearlong K Team program.

UK 101 & UK 201 Peer Instructors & Liaisons

UK 101 and 201 Peer Instructors play an integral role in the transition and success of our new students.  The Peer Instructors help teach the UK 101 and UK 201 classes, which are orientation courses for our freshmen and transfer students.  Every Peer Instructor is paired with a faculty/staff instructor, and the two work together to create the best experience possible for all students enrolled in UK 101 and 201.  This experience gives students valuable leadership skills including teaching, public speaking, mentoring, and more.
