Congratulations to PhD student and Superfund Research Center Trainee Hongyi (Derek) Wan! Derek won 2nd place for his TED-Sep talk, “Iron/Palladium Nanoparticle Functionalized Membrane for Chlorinated Contaminates Treatment,” on October 30th at the 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Derek’s presentation was based on his membrane technologies research which is supported by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Superfund Research Program. The rapid fire oral presentation session was modeled on the TED talk and Shark Tank® concepts and it gave presenters the opportunity to pitch their work to the live meeting audience. Derek was one of only eleven presenters selected by AIChE for this unique opportunity. Presenters with both interesting ideas and superior communications skills were chosen. In addition to the honor of the 2nd place award and the $250 cash prize, his presentation will reach a global audience when it premiers on the AIChE Separations Division YouTube Channel. The Channel is devoted to spreading the knowledge from AIChE Separations Division’s upcoming innovators. Derek's award-winning presentation can be seen here.
