Dr. Shuffett graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1990. She completed her surgical internship as well as one year of Neurosurgery Residency at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston prior to changing her field of practice to Radiology. She completed a Neuroradiology Research Fellowship as well as four years of Radiology Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She then moved her family to Charlottesville, Virginia, where she completed a fellowship in Thoracoabdominal imaging at the University of Virginia.

After completing her training, Dr. Shuffett has been employed as a general radiologist in private practice, in addition to holding academic appointments in Diagnostic Radiology and Breast Imaging. Prior to relocating to Kentucky, she was a faculty member at the Emory University School of Medicine from 2004 to 2010 in the Department of Breast Imaging. During her time at Emory, she served as the Director of Breast Imaging at Grady Memorial Hospital from 2004-2006, as well as the Director of the Breast Imaging Fellowship Program from 2007-2009. She was honored to have also served as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Radiology in Breast Imaging.

Dr. Shuffett is presently employed as a Breast Imaging Radiologist at Baptist Healthcare in Lexington with a phenomenal team of physicians, technologists, and nurses. In October 2018 Sandy was honored as Dean Dorton Physician of the Year during the MediStar Awards, held Oct. 30 at the Muhammed Ali Center in Louisville. Sponsored by IGE Media, publisher of Medical News, the award is presented to a physician who has shown outstanding leadership and vision and has contributed to their workplace, leaving a lasting legacy.

Upon moving to Kentucky, Dr. Shuffett and her family traded suburbia for farm life, which they love. Dr. Shuffett has two children: Austin who is studying at the Universityof Louisville Brandeis School of Law, and Madison who is attending Centre College.

Dr. Shuffett is very grateful to have the opportunity to rejoin an academic community and to serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
