Some emails sent to your University of Kentucky email address are not being delivered when email is forwarded off campus
If you are forwarding your UK email to an off-campus location (including g.uky.edu), some emails sent to your University of Kentucky email address may not be delivered. If you receive your email in a UK Office365 or Exchange mailbox (that is, you do not have them forwarded to another address) this does not affect you.
Why is this happening?
There are two scenarios in which this issue can occur.
The first scenario is regarding an email protocol called DMARC. DMARC is meant to stop the fraudulent use of email. It is used to validate that an email message comes from an authorized sender. Some email service providers have chosen to deploy the DMARC protocol in a way that prevents email delivery through the University of Kentucky's email system. Delivery of email depends on the DMARC policies of the sender's email service provider. Some providers will not deliver these messages (ie. AOL, Yahoo). Other providers may direct messages to the Junk or SPAM folder.
The second scenario is regarding how email is routed in the University of Kentucky email system. If you have an existing UK Office 365 mailbox, your email may be delivered there even if you have your email delivery location set to another email address. This may also occur even if you do not actively use your existing UK Office 365 email. You can verify if you have an Office 365 mailbox by visiting the UK Account Manager at https://ukam.uky.edu/manager/Account/Login.aspx.
What is the workaround?
The current best recommendation for UK faculty, staff, and students is to use an Office365 email account to send and receive mail. You can configure your email account to deliver messages to your Office 365 account by visiting the UK Account Manager https://ukam.uky.edu. If you currently use a g.uky.edu email account, you can set up forwarding to your UK Office 365 email by following the instructions located at support.google.com.
If you currently use a 3rd party (external) email account, please reference your email provider's help documentation for instructions on how to forward to your UK Office 365 email.

Google 2-Step Verification
What is Google 2-Step Verification?
Google 2-Step Verification (also known as 2-Factor Authentication) is similar to most multi-factor
authentication processes. It is a means by which a system login and authentication process is

Why should UK users of Google services enable 2-Step Verification?
UK users of Google services should enable the Google 2-Step Verification feature because it makes the
Google login process stronger. Even if an imposter/criminal cracks, guesses or steals your password, s/he
will not be able to login without access to your verification codes. There are several ways to receive these
verification codes and you will get to choose the means (e.g., mobile phone, desk phone, etc.)
How do I install or sign up for Google 2 step verification?
Either search for "Google 2 Step Verification" or click on the following link and select Get Started:
www.google.com/landing/2step/. The wizard will walk you through the setup process.
It is strongly recommended that you print off your back up codes and make sure you have a good
secondary email account or phone number (to use for backup purposes.) This will benefit you if ever
have problems with your primary Google account or primary mobile device.
Do I have to pay extra for Google 2-Step Verification?
No, there is no additional fee to use Google 2-Step Verification feature.
Will UK pay for my data connection?
No, the University of Kentucky will not pay or reimburse you for your cell
phone minutes or data plan.
Will Google 2-Step Verification cause a lot of bandwidth to be used?
No, the entire authentication process will not use much bandwidth at all. When a verification code is sent to a mobile phone, it will be sent as a text message (i.e., SMS).
Will Google 2-Step Verification work when I am off campus?
Yes, Google 2-step verification will work anywhere you have your device with Google Authenticator installed.

Employee Email information
University employees can have one of two email accounts depending on their department's Office 365 Migration status: Office 365 or Microsoft Local Exchange.
Cloud Email Services for Students:
Students may choose one of the following UK-branded cloud email options:
- Google Apps for Education (Gmail)
- Microsoft Office 365
Important Information for Medical Center Students
Dentistry, Nursing and Medical students (most students on MC domain) are required to use local exchange email. Exchange accounts are set up for Medical Center students and emails will be sent to that mailbox when they are not sent to your University Email Address (UEA). If you have a cloud email account activated, then emails sent to your University Email Address (FirstName.LastName@uky.edu) will arrive in your cloud email inbox, but when your link blue user ID is used for email (UserID@uky.edu), then the email will arrive in your exchange inbox.

The University of Kentucky offers several email options for Students, Faculty, and Staff. To make sure you select the best one for you, check out the information available for Students or Employees by clicking above.
Your University Email Address (UEA) is an email alias you choose. It remains the same regardless of the email service used.
When you activate your link blue account, you are given the option to create a personalized university email address. The default pattern is firstname.lastname@example.org, but a different address may be chosen. This address will be displayed in the UK directory and all email sent to this address will be routed to your selected email service.
In addition to the personalized UEA, email may also be sent you at <linkblueuserID>@uky.edu. This address is used by several campus systems, such as SAP and Canvas, which ensures that important university email will still reach you even if you change your personalized address.
You can easily check which email service you are using from the Account Manager. Your "Delivery Location" will reflect the mailbox you need to check to access your emails.
You can use the Account Manager to change or reset the account passwords for any email service.
- Microsoft Office 365 and local Exchange emails use your link blue login credentials. Changing your linkblue password will also change your login password for email.
- Google Apps for Education passwords are changed inside the account manager. After logging in, click the "Change" link beside UK Google Apps Education Edition.
