University of Kentucky Information Technology (UKIT) upgraded the Microsoft's Live@edu cloud email service to Microsoft Office 365 on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. UK students who had a Live@edu account now have two separate accounts: a UK-branded Microsoft Office 365 account and a personal Microsoft Account. All existing email, contacts, files, and other personal information migrated in the transition.

The UK Paging Server (page.uky.edu) license has expired and the software provider is no longer providing a license or support for the product. Therefore, the paging server and support will be decommissioned on April 30, 2013. Campus paging server users can have emails sent to their pager via the pager providers internal systems by sending an email to their 10-digit phone number (email@example.com) after April 30. UKHealthCare will communicate a new paging process to UKHealthCare pager users soon.
Apple customers that have upgraded their device to iOS 6.1 will experience syncing issues with their Outlook Calendar. Users who have upgraded to iOS 6.1 will have “read-only” access to their calendars on their mobile device. Which means users will not be able to update or add new meetings from their iPhone or iPad during this time. Email will continue to flow as normal. At this time, UK STRONGLY advises users against upgrading to iOS 6.1, or any newer iOS (6.1.1).
UKIT is completing required maintenance on a storage system on January 5, 2013, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
During that time, the storage system vendor will work with UKIT Engineers to restart the system, which will require SQL databases to be removed from service.
In addition, several systems and part of the VMFarm will be out of service.

In October 2010, UKIT initiated an Experience, Analysis and Design (EAD) study to collect behavior-based data from faculty and students engaged in online learning at the University of Kentucky. This effort, known as the “Blackboard EAD” identified improvements needed to enhance the Blackboard (Bb) user experience.
The University is conducting a technical upgrade of the SAP R/3 system. The upgraded version of the software will position UK users to take advantage of new functionality being developed and implemented by SAP. This is the transactional portion of the system; BW/Reporting and portal functions are not being upgraded at this time.
University of Kentucky computer users are warned to be wary of phone calls purporting to come from technology companies such as Microsoft, offering to "fix" unspecified computer problems, or warning them that their computers have been "misconfigured" or that they have unwittingly downloaded malicious software.
Efforts began in November 2012 to transform the computer lab space in The Hub at W.T. Young, into a Media Depot. UKIT is creating a student digital media space with the support of the Student Fee Committee to provide online support, recording equipment, editing stations with software, and technical support for students’ development of their academic media projects.
