Kronos Implemented in UKIT

For the past several months, UKIT payroll has been researching and coordinating the transition to having all hourly employees enter their daily time in Kronos, software that automates the electronic preparation of time records. On February 13, the last group of UKIT biweekly employees were moved to the system and began recording their time in Kronos. UKIT STEPS employees will begin using the system in March, and UKIT student use will be implemented in May.

With the Kronos software, employees are able to enter working hours and to review, edit, and approve an electronic timecard. An employee can request vacation and other types of leave electronically, with the resulting request sent automatically to his or her manager for approval. Managers can view timecards electronically and receive email for time-off requests accompanied automatically by accrual balance and scheduling information. The information is transferred to SAP at the end of the pay period automatically. This new process eliminates duplication of data entry (for requestor and payroll office), paper timesheets, and paper absence forms. Kronos records time punches instantly, so there is no need for revised timesheets.

Several other university departments and colleges have implemented Kronos, and it is expected that the number will continue to increase.
