the acronym for Business Warehouse. |

Client |
is an individual SAP system, accessible to a group of users, set up to perform a defined role such as testing, development, training, or production. |

CM (see SLCM) |
refers to the Campus Management Application in SAP R/3. Campus management included prior to version 6.0 student recruitment, admissions, registration, academic history, accounts management, financial aid, and other student services. Now it is known as SLCM (Student Life Cycle Management). |

is the Controlling Application in SAP R/3. |

Deliverable |
is something that can be provided as the product of development, an expected result. A deliverable may involve software or hardware. |

DRP |
stands for Disaster Recovery Planning. The primary objective is to enable an organization to survive a disaster and then to reestablish normal business operations. In order to survive, the organization must assure that critical operations can resume normal processing within a reasonable time frame. |

EAG |
the acronym for Enterprise Applications Group, the unit responsible for the SAP system and other enterprise applications. |

End-users |
are individuals who use SAP to carry out their duties and responsibilities. |

is the entirety of an organization that uses computers. |

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System |
is a software system that permits organizations to manage resources across the enterprise and enables the integration of various functions. |

stands for the Financial Application in SAP R/3. |

GL Account |
GL Account identifies categories of expense, revenue, assets, liabilities, and fund balances. It is a required data element for each transaction. |

GUI |
stands for Graphical User Interface and refers to the display of software on a screen using graphics, symbols, and icons rather than text alone. |

is the acronym for Integrated Resource Information Systems, UK’s enterprise resource planning system effort. |

is a system that was used for a long time. At UK, for example, SIS, FRS, and HRS are all legacy systems from the 1980s. |

Master Data |
are created centrally and available to all applications and all authorized users. |

MM |
is the Materials Management application in SAP R/3. |

PM |
is the Plant Maintenance application in SAP R/3. |

Portal |
refers to a website that provides a gateway or single port of entry to other sites. |

|
Power user |
is an individual whose primary job responsibilities require ongoing use of SAP. |
|
|
Project |
is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service. |
|
|
R/3 |
is the term that refers to the SAP application providing real-time access to information using a three-tier system architecture. The three components of this architecture are the information database, the transaction application server, and the user desktop. |

|
Real Time |
refers to immediate access to data by multiple users throughout an organization. |
|
|
Risk |
is any event that could prevent the project realizing the expectations of the stakeholders as stated in the project charter. A risk that becomes a reality is treated as an issue. |

Roles |
describe a set of activities for employees. Roles focus on an individual’s tasks and responsibilities in an enterprise and answer the question, “How do I complete the work for which I am responsible?” |

Sandbox |
is a term used to identify a client that has been built for development, testing, and/or training. |
|
|
SAP |
stands for Systems Applications Products. This German-based company produced the ERP software that UK uses for its core administration systems. |
|
|
SAP Netweaver |
is the technical foundation for SAP solutions. Netweaver is a comprehensive integration and application platform built to work with existing information technology infrastructures. |
|
|
Scalability |
refers to the ability of a computer application or product (hardware or software) to continue to function well when it (or its context) is changed in size or volume in order to meet a user need. Scalability may also refer to the ability to not only function well in the rescaled situation, but also to actually take full advantage of it. |

Self-service |
is an electronic, on-line system that puts employees and students in control of managing certain kinds of personal information (such as address changes or employee benefits selections). |
|
|
Unit Testing |
is the testing of unit in isolation from all components called from other programs or modules. |
|
|
Workflow |
is a sequence of steps processed either by people or by a system. Workflow in SAP is a driven electronic process of notifications and approvals based upon defined criteria and appropriate role authorizations. |
