The bulk of the hardware for the DLX 2012 cluster was delivered on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Then the real fun began!

Thursday's theme was "waiting". The team can't do a whole lot more until the PDUs (Power Distribution Units) arrive.

Friday the team started system configuration with temporary power to a couple of servers.

Monday, we finally have the last of the racks, although we're still missing some odds and ends.

Tuesday, we finally have the PDUs, so we can power up some of the racks.

The HPC team, DDN, and Dell spent most of this time installing and testing system software, testing various individual racks of hardware, configuring the storage system, checking the network and InfiniBand, and a host of other mundane (but crucial) and not very photogenic tasks.

Monday is cutover day! The old cluster was shutdown early in the morning, so staff and contractors could begin moving the XDH chilling equipment and some of the power feeds. The new cluster will be powered up in its entirety for the first time late in the afternoon.
