LectureTools Grant Applications Fall Deadline: October 1, 2013

A second round of grant applications will be accepted through October 1, 2013.  UK full-time and part-time faculty/instructors are encouraged to apply for these grant opportunities which are funded by the Academic Planning, Analytics and Technologies (APAT) Internal Grant Award Fund. These one year awards were developed to explore the use of an active learning platform and to develop a course integrating LectureTools, an interactive, web-based student response, note-taking and inquiry tool that improves student attentiveness and engagement in lecture.

Call for Adaptive & Personalized Learning Integrating High Speed Analytics Grant Proposals

APAT encourages UK full-time faculty members and senior research staff to apply for the Adaptive and Personalized Learning Integrating High Speed Analytics Grant.  
The one year award was developed to help new investigators research programs related to learning and information technology.  The award will be $5,000 and last for one year. The deadline for applying for this opportunity is October 15, 2013.

Email Limits Set for UK Employees to Limit Spam

Recent hijacking of campus employee email accounts have led to email spam of over 10,000 addresses per hour.  This deluge of spam damages the University's reputation and causes specific sites to reject all mail from @uky.edu. Therefore, as of July 1, 2013, University of Kentucky Exchange users are limited to sending email to 250 recipients in a 24 hour period.

Stay Connected when Visiting other Institutions

University of Kentucky students, staff and faculty can now connect on UK’s campus and at over 200 other institutions with their link blue credentials with a global wireless network service called Eduroam (shortened from education roaming). Thus, individuals receive immediate access on any WiFi-enabled computer, smart phone or other device when visiting other campuses with Eduroam without requesting a guest account.

Digital Textbook Pilots Continue

Kaltura Update Adds Video and Webcam Features

The Kaltura Building Block in Blackboard Learn was updated on July 18, 2013. The upgrade added new video and webcam recording features. Videos and Webcam recordings can be added to announcements, discussions, assignments and other areas mashups are available in the content editor by instructors and students. Using Wi-Fi: Connect With Care

If you’re traveling this summer, chances are you’ll encounter a Wi-Fi hotspot (network) or two.

Wi-Fi in airports, hotels, train stations, coffee shops, and other public places can be convenient, but they’re often not secure, and can leave you at risk.

Whether you’re entertaining the kids by streaming a video on a tablet, downloading new travel apps on your smartphone or even taking your tablet poolside, there are precautions you should take to make sure your personal information is safe.

TurningPoint Update

The TurningPoint clicker software was updated on classroom computers supported by Audio/Visual Services in June 2013. The new version, TurningPoint 5, is available for UK instructors to download from download.uky.edu.
