5th Annual Active Learning Grants Program

Receive a $10,000 Research Grant: LectureTools Customers Eligible for Echo360 Active Learning Grants Program.

This one-of-a-kind program has recognized the importance of research by awarding a quarter of a million dollars in grant funding to Echo360 client institutions during the past five years.

This year, the program will once again award six $10,000 grants to institutions, including a new grant created exclusively for LectureTools users!

Public Folders Migration

Several years ago, Microsoft announced public folders would be discontinued, but did not provide an exact date. The remaining public folders need to be phased out by June 30, 2014 as support continues to decrease and disk space is limited.

Link Blue Password Policy Revision

The link blue password policy for UK students and campus employees will be updated Fall 2013. The revised policy will create a better user experience and increase security while keeping current with computing trends. Included in the revision are changes to the expiration timeframe, minimum length, and number of lockout attempts.

New Digital Media Space in the Hub

Efforts began in November 2012 to transform the computer lab space in The Hub at W.T. Young to a student digital media space to be known as “The Media Depot.” The Media Depot will provide online assistance, recording equipment and space, editing stations with software, and technical support for students’ development of their academic media projects. The Media Depot is funded by the Student Technology Fee and is a collaboration between Academic Planning, Analytics and Technologies (APAT) and UK Libraries and is in support of the QEP, Presentation U.

First APAT Internal Grant Recipient Announced

Sujin Kim, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in the Division of Biomedical Informatics, Department of Biostatistics, within the College of Public Health, jointly appointed with the School of Library and Information Science, College of Communication and Information has been awarded the first Academic Planning, Analytics and Technologies (APAT) Internal Grant Award in the amount of $13,000, to pursue her study, “An Effectiveness Study of a Personalized Learning Platform for Health Informatics Instruction.”

Call for Proposals: Active Learning LectureTools Development Grants

UK full-time and part-time faculty/instructors are encouraged to apply for a new grant opportunity, “Active Learning LectureTools Development Grants,” which are funded by the Academic Planning, Analytics and Technologies (APAT) Internal Grant Award Fund. These one year awards were developed to explore the use of an active learning platform and to develop a course integrating LectureTools. Ten awards will be given in the amount of $1,500 each. Application deadlines are July 1, 2013 and October 2, 2013.

Kirwan and Blanding Complex Wireless Upgrade

The Kirwan and Blanding Complex, built in 1967, is home to over 2500 undergraduate students each semester.  Residents spend a significant amount of time using wireless services on smartphones, computers and tablet devices. Wireless access is slow and unavailable in resident rooms and common areas. The complex is not conducive to modern wireless technology which hinders student living and learning experiences.
