Revised Announcement Concerning Blackberry Devices

An announcement was made two days ago, August 8, 2012, from UKIT which stated Blackberry Enterprises Services would be discontinued effective September 14, 2012.

The services will not be discontinued. Blackberry Enterprise Services will remain intact, and end users will not be affected. We apologize for the confusion.

Direct Dial International Calling

Effective September 1, 2012 Departments with Cisco Voice Over IP phones will be able to place direct dial international long distance phone calls without using a calling card. The direct dial call will still require the caller to use his/her long distance authorization code.
To facilitate this calling feature, Business Officers must first go SAP PA20 9020 screen and change the current Domestic Long distance selection from 100 to 150 (Domestic & International LD) for each employee they designate as requiring International LD.

Google Apps Extended to Faculty and Staff

Google Apps for University of Kentucky has now been extended to UK faculty and staff. Google Apps accounts, which are optional for faculty and staff, provide access to Google Sites, Talk, Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Blogger, Reader, Voice, Code, Picasa and Webmaster Tools. Others may be enabled in the future.

UK Awards Supercomputer Contract

The University of Kentucky has awarded a contract to Dell Inc for a new supercomputer cluster to replace our Lipscomb High Performance Computing Cluster, also known as the DLX. The University put out an RFP on March 29 and received five responses. After a thorough assessment by an evaluation committee of faculty and IT administrators, Dell's proposal was chosen as the best fit for our needs, within our budget, and the most flexible proposal overall.

UKIT Announces New Mobile Grading App

UKIT is pleased to announce the release of a new mobile grading application which provides faculty and staff the convenience of grading courses from their mobile devices. UK’s InCommon Membership

For several months now, UK has been a member of InCommon: a coalition of US education and research communities supporting a common federated identity management framework. This framework permits UK faculty and researchers to log in to certain information resources without having to obtain a user ID and password for each resource. Instead, they log in using their LinkBlue account and password.

As a result, UK faculty and researchers can access the following websites and resources and authenticate using their UK LinkBlue account and password:

Apple and Adobe Conduct Training on UK’s Campus

UKIT sponsored two vendor visits to campus during the spring. Presentations were made to full houses, including standing room only, for Apple iBooks Author and ePubs as well as for a preview of Adobe’s Creative Suite.

e-Signature Regulations Coming Soon

The e-Signatures Workgroup Committee developed a new Administrative Regulation and new Business Procedure on electronic signatures. The university may require that members of the university community use electronic signatures to conduct certain transactions that previously required handwritten signatures and approvals on paper documents. Increasing, improved efficiency of internal transactions that require authorization is a desired outcome. These proposed regulations establish the policies and procedures by which the university:
