Distance Learning Readiness for Future Students

Our Distance Learning courses provide students the ability to complete their education from practically anywhere. The University of Kentucky ensures that all online courses are taught at the same academic level, by the same faculty, as fully on-campus courses. Below are some tips to get you started and to ensure a successful educational experience.

Personal Characteristics

To be successful in a hybrid or online academic environment, the following characteristics are important:

  • Self-motivated and independent learner
  • Good time management skills
  • High comfort level with technology
  • Ability to work without distraction for an extended period of time
  • Comfortable communicating in a virtual environment

Things to Know

Online classes are a lot of work! One of the most common misconceptions is that online courses will require less work, or be easier, than a face-to-face course. While the convenience of taking a distance learning course is easier, online courses require as much effort as a face-to-face course, and students must be self-motivated to stay on task.
