Title IX

Know Your IX

So, what is Title IX?
Title IX is a federal mandate that requires universities to provide accommodations.

I'm confused. What kind of accommodations?
Accommodations include schedule changes, dorms changes, and no contact orders to name a few, so you can feel safe on campus. A no contact order is exactly what it sounds like - it prevents the assailant from disturbing your everyday life.

That sounds expensive. How am I going to be able to afford that?
Don't worry! These accommodations are at NO cost to the survivor.

I'm afraid to come forward. How do I know what I say and report isn't going to become public information?
All conversations at the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center, University of Kentucky's Counseling Center, and University Health Services are confidential.Screen Shot 2017-08-03 at 3.36.55 PM.png

Can I talk to my RA or professor about my sexual assault?
You can, but be aware that these sources are mandated reporters, which means they have to file a report.

What services do these places provide?
The purpose of these places is to support you on your healing journey. This could mean speaking to a counselor or working with an advocate at VIP who can help you explore options, process emotions, and access resources.

What if I was under the influence at the time of the assault?
UK has an Amnesty Policy which states that survivors would not be punished for violations of the drug and alcohol policy. Your safety is much more important.

Who are these services for?
Sexual assault can happen to anyone, and the services are offered to any student, faculty, or staff at the University of Kentucky.

Is it normal to be feelings alone/scared/hurt/angry/lost?
Definitely. There are many survivors who report feeling the same way. We recognize that the healing journey is yours, and we are here to support you along the way.
