Women and Philanthropy Video TEXT ((**SOT**)) Mrs. Nawanna Privett Through this network, we have a central place where we can all come together and talk about ways we can really enhance and enrich our university. ((**SOT**)) Mrs. Patsy B. Todd What we promise, if these women will come and give us a thousand dollars, they will be a part of this group and will get to see areas that they have probably never seen before. ((**SOT**)) Privett Our focus is on research programs and scholarships for UK students. To pull our resources, so that, just in one year there is $159,000 that we are able to really give for the benefit of students. I just can't imagine any better way that we could do something like that. ((**SOT**)) Todd We have over 40 students who have been selected for these scholarships and they are of varied amounts. ((**SOT**)) Privett These are students who have started, they are doing a good job, they have a good grade point average and they need help. So, we feel very strongly about helping those students, knowing those needs are real. ((**SOT**)) Laura Fallon I plan on using this scholarship to further my education. Next year I will be a senior and there was a possibility that I would have to take a year off because of finances and there was also a possibility that I would have to move home to New Jersey. The scholarship gives me an opportunity to stay in Lexington and finish out my degree. ((**SOT**)) Chelsea Sinkhorn It's gonna be helping me out a lot with my finances. I'm going to actually be able to go to summer school now and graduate on time, which I'm really excited about. ((**SOT**)) Brad Coleman It's gonna help reduce stress for financial needs, for me as well as my parents, due to the hard economic times right now. ((**SOT**)) Sarah Brown Money is stressful and this gonna help me focus on school. ((**SOT**)) David Christopher It's such a relief because I came to UK not having any scholarship money and this is just such a relief for my parents. ((**SOT**)) Devin Lee The scholarship is gonna help me pay off a lot of my student loans, but it's also an internship at the Center for the Study of Violence Against Children. So, we get to have a lot of hands on interaction with the kids who are victims of abuse and neglect. ((**SOT**)) Brown I'm excited to work with the kids! ((**SOT**)) Sinkhorn I'll actually be working with health resources and food extension and we are going to be working with families with drug problems. ((**SOT**)) Melanie Truesdale This will give me a hands-on opportunity. I will be working with many intelligent people who have research and empirical based practice. This is a big opportunity. ((**SOT**)) Elizabeth Monahan I want to work in public policy, so I'm hoping this scholarship will help get me closer. ((**SOT**)) Ashlee Milanich The scholarship is helping go abroad to do an internship in Geneva for a semester, which is actually going to help with a future internship or a job. ((**SOT**)) Christine Stephens It took me two years to get to this point of nail biting and worrying that I'm too old to do this, and it gives me an opportunity to learn about my culture, my mother is Puerto Rican. ((**SOT**)) Derek Fenwick The scholarship is going to go toward a two-week trip in Ecuador for Study Abroad and learning about culture and exploring the country. ((**SOT**)) Timothy Vonderschmitt I'm actually going to Carlsberg, Germany and I'm going to study Calc 3 and stay with a host family. ((**SOT**)) Monica Dewey I plan on going to Austria, studying in Salzburg. I'll be able to do an intense German program there, as well as opera program there. ((**SOT**)) Courtney Lynch I've never left the United States before, so this will be a great opportunity for me. My study abroad program is a little more expensive than others, because it has a community service component. ((**SOT**)) Vonderschmitt I'm really glad that I got it! Now, I can go to Germany and study Calc 3 and get ahead of other engineering students. ((**SOT**)) Privett To see these students come to the university and have the opportunity to graduate because of these scholarships that we provide and know that they are going out and making the world a better place, there is nothing more gratifying. ((**SOT**)) Erin Thompson The scholarship means that I can work with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and learn about personnel and management. It gives me an opportunity to work for a symphony, which is what I want to do in the future. ((**SOT**)) Christopher I can focus on my grades here at UK. I plan on becoming a professor here. ((**SOT**)) Truesdale The scholarship is going to provide the opportunity for me to give back to the community. I'm a social work major and I'm interested in working with families that have been through a crisis and this will give me a hands-on opportunity. ((**SOT**)) Monahan I hope to strengthen family policy, policies that specifically support the family unit and to strengthen the family unit. There are so many different aspects of that, it's hard to choose one, but definitely with the family unit, strengthening and empowering the family unit. ((**SOT**)) Lynch I think it's really important to give back to the community, so not only will the scholarship allow me to leave the country and gain that experience, but also give me more experience with international aid, that I'm really interested in for the future. ((**SOT**)) Taran Parsons It means that I can actually do what I want to do, what I came here to UK to do, and so I can be able to go home and do what I need to do in my community, and help people. ((**SOT**)) Privett UK did so much for me and I really want to give back. ((**SOT**)) Todd We just really hope that we can make a difference. ((**SOT**)) Coleman I'd like to say thank you a lot. It means a lot to me, I just can't really put it in words. ((**SOT**)) Kierre' Lewis Thank you, very very much. ((**SOT**)) Sinkhorn Thank you, and thank you, and thank you because it has made the world of a difference. ((**SOT**)) Lynch As a first year Haitian college student, if it wasn't for scholarships and the support of individuals like the people who give this scholarship, half the things that I've done in my life wouldn't be possible. ((**SO T**)) Kari Cornett Thank you so much for making this possible, for me to be able to go to a different country and see how the people live. ((**SOT**)) Stephens It gives me an opportunity that I would never have otherwise had, and I'm very grateful for that. ((**SOT**)) Samantha Justice I'm from a small-town, Eastern Kentucky, low-income family and just having the opportunity to go, I just can't thank them enough. #####
