 Conclaves of the List   ff@ homepage

One of the most interesting things about FF@ is the amount of non-technological interaction among members. If you haven't checked it out already, there is a FF@ Web page listing the details of current conclaves and fly swaps. What are claves and conclaves you ask? Well, the short version is that they are regional camping and fishing meetings, and have been attended by as few as three as many 200 plus list members. For some, a clave is more. As one member muses:

"a clave gives me a chance to put a face next to a name in my mind, a chance to swap lies and flies with friends I've never met face to face, a chance to share a drink and meal with like-minded individuals, a chance to learn how to improve my casting/fishing/stalking/tieing/cooking/living ..."

For others, a clave and conclave are gatherings to be distinguished one from another.

But I think our esteemed list owner, Danny Walls, probably said it best when he wrote:

"... a conclave, or clave for short, is when a group of FF@ folks meet somewhere to camp, fish, drink, smoke cigars and swap lies together. They are some of the finest times you can have on or near the water ... go to as many as you can next year, you will not regret it."

Two conclaves, the NorthEast Conclave and the TennClave are held every year. Both rival some of the best flyfishing extravaganzas commercially produced.
