The Jazz Beetle

This beetle is based on one I tied and photographed and illustrated for Ed Koch and Harry Steeve's book, Terrestrials (Stackpole 1994).

PATTERN:

Hook: #14-#12 Mustad 94833 (or equivilent)
Thread: 6/0 Danville prewaxed olive or Black
Body: Closed cell Larva lace foam (for floater); open cell (for sinking beetle)
Under body: peacodk herl, three strands
Wincase: Swiss straw (copper)
Wings: Kreinik .10 inch flat ribbon (mallard, #850), or use Krystal Flash (4" section)
