Lead efforts to educate farmers on technical issues related to agricultural production. Challenged to promote the re-envisioning of the Cooperative Extension in a county with 600.000 urban consumers, 350 farmers, 5,000 cows, 6,000 horses, corn, soybeans, and tobacco. Lead R&D for MSD 3-5-0 low cost fertilizer for use on pastures, hay production, and corn. Conducted applied field research on tobacco blue mold and nutritional deficiencies. Coordinated an IPM early warning network for tobacco, forage production, and corn and soybean production. Planned and developed 37 PowerPoint educational/technical materials. Management of three field days per year using demonstration research plots. Teaching: Forage production, grazing school; safe use of pesticides, organic farming. Support of seven local agricultural organizations with over 450 farmers and agribusiness people. Management of public relations with government agencies, and universities. ACHIEVEMENTS: (1) Organize and re-energize farm communities around five main agricultural groups. (2) Increase beef cattle productivity for 27% of the farmers through more efficient practices by teaching the Master Cattlemen’s Certification Program and the Forage and Grazing School. (3) Initiated the re-envisioning of the Cooperative Extension in a county with 600,000+ urban consumers and 350 farmers. Lead the motivation of a community of volunteers, county agents, and metro officials. (4) Develop continuing educational programs needed by the farming community.

Diplomat under the auspicious of the Organization American States. Research funds from the Sweden and the Canadian Government. - August 1984 - May 1991. Lead nine regional (Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras and El Salvador) applied research agro-forestry projects overseeing $3.3 to $4.7 million annual budget. Managed a team of nine PhDs, scientists and 14 graduate college students. Supervised 14 MS student theses. Research: Crop production, vegetative propagation, plant nutrition and fertilization. Management: Coordinated research involving strategic planning and overall management from initial feasibility analysis, resource planning, inception to completion. Wrote grants and organized fundraisers. Responsible for preparing and allocation of budgets and financial reporting. Crops: corn, sorghum, beans, soybeans, rice, cassava, true name, pastures, coffee, and cocoa. ACHIEVEMENTS: (1) Developed five new agro-forestry systems. (2) Tested nine existing agro-forestry systems. (3) Facilitated the advance of knowledge in agro-forestry systems. (4) Improved propagation technique for leguminous tropical trees.. (5) Established the first three collections of leguminous tropical trees in the world in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
