Striving for the recognition of true merit wherever found...
Taus from the earliest days, have set themselves apart while trying to bind men together in a brotherhood based upon eternal and immutable principles. Founded upon the noblest premise of uniting the North and South after the Civil War, this country's most devastating and wrenching conflict. Alpha Tau Omega's purpose has continued to be far-reaching. Through the years, many Taus have elevated themselves while living The Creed, creating a lasting impression on the country the Founders intended to help heal. From Otis Allan Glazebrook to Taus yet unborn, the men of ATΩ have left and will continue to leave a lasting impression on the fabric of society. ATΩ alumni have touched your life by holding influential national and international political positions, entertained you on the playing fields, in the cinema, on stage and on television, been the heads of some of the world's largest companies, changed lives from the pulpit, and education from chalkboards and in America's neighborhoods. A place has been reserved for you among some of America's and ATΩ's finest individuals. Through many personal accomplishments, Taus have won awards in every conceivable field, establishing ATΩ as one of the strongest national fraternities in the country. The Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity annually ranks among the top national fraternities. With a network of more than 175,000 alumni, more than 6,000 undergraduate members and 142 active chapters nationwide, with new chapters chartering and old chapters reopening annually, ATΩ is one of the oldest and finest fraternities in the country. The Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity boasts of its ability to help with the education of young men and help the achieve academic and professional successes with annual leadership conferences and educational programming. During the 1997-1998 academic year 720 undergraduates attended Regional Leadership Conferences, more than 400 will attend the biennial Congress, and 100 members attend the LeaderShape Institute in Champaign, Illinois, annually through Foundation Scholarships. Another educational component every undergraduate will be affected by is the traveling leadership consultants of the ATΩ National Headquarters Traveling to 42 states and 169 campuses during the 1998-1998 academic year, each consultant visited an average 56 chapters by the end of the academic year working with and educating chapter officers, chapter members and alumni volunteers. During this past year leadership consultants were actively communicating with the chapters when they weren't on campus continuing to offer support and advice, making 956 phone calls to members and volunteers, averaging 319 calls each and 239 calls a month. ATΩ strives to have the best and brightest members in its chapters, succeeding not only within the Fraternity, but in the classroom. Forty-seven percent of ATΩ's chapters are at or above the all-men's averages on their campuses, and those that aren't, are implementing programming that will ensure they surpass the all-men's averages. Alumni volunteerism is another key to the successes and prominence of ATΩ. In 1994, ATΩ asked chapters to create local boards of trustees consisting of alumni serving as an advisory and support group. Today 74% of ATΩ's chapters have active BOTs, and the remaining 26% are working on building or restructuring their boards. Recruitment is the key to not only the survival of ATΩ, but the maintenance of the high standards upon which ATΩ was founded. This year 2,798 pledges were taken by ATΩ and 2,325 members were initiated into membership.
