1. Read Freud, "Erotic Wishes and Dreams" (CP 90-92), and Bettelheim "Oedipal Conflicts and Resolutions: The Knight in Shining Armor and the Damsel in Distress" (CP 93-96).
2. Choose the topic of your unit 3 essay then write a 1-2 page pre-write (i.e. brainstorm) of that essay. A pre-write consists of general thoughts or ideas that you have about your essay. This can include notes, organizational strategies, and/or ideas that you wish to develop further. The purpose of the pre-write is to get your preliminary ideas about your topic down on paper, and to help you prepare for research. I do not expect a finished essay, nor even a complete draft. Finally, though outside research is not required, you must have a clear working thesis. You may wish to re-read "Planning and Drafting," in your Penguin Handbook (38-50).
