Get acquainted with several Asian musical cultures à
Learn how music is related to daily life in these cultures à
Experience playing and singing folk music of several countries. à
Adapt and apply musical activities in the classroom Schedule: Monday
Bamboo culture; Angklung Tuesday
Gamelan and Orff instruments. Wednesday
Chinese luogu Thursday
Kalinga bamboo music, Balinese Marching
gamelan, Thai long drum dance; (Afternoon): Teaching World Music Friday
Morning: discussion, rehearsal; afternoon:
presentation Music is
part of daily life for common folks in many cultures. Dr. Han will guide you
through lectures, audio-visual presentations, and simple music makings to explore
the music and culture of several Asian countries. At the end of the week, you
will be able to demonstrate Chinese Luogu with lion parade & hand
puppets, Southeast Asian Angklung music, Philippines tribal bamboo music, and
Thai Long Drum Dance. You can in turn conduct these musical activities in
your own classroom! What a fun way to learn about different cultures! Workshop Fee is $50. 1 to 3 UK graduate credits
