Balzer, S
(1988). A validation study of a measure of musical creativity. Journal
of Research in Music Education, 36, 232-249.
The reliability of Measures of Creativity in Sound and Music (MCSM) by Cecilia Wang was studied by
administering the test to 32 second-grade students. In addition, the author
constructed a Likert rating scale and asked the classroom teacher to rate the
general creativity, and the music specialist to rate the musical creativity of
the same students. Inter-judge reliability of MCSM was found to be .99 for the
Fluency factor, and .90 for the Imagination factor. No significant age or
gender difference was found for MCSM. Ratings of the teachers were found to be
a significant predictor for Musical Fluency but not for Musical Imagination.
