Born
and bred Athenian, Katharine Sarikakis is lecturer at Coventry University and
is currently reading for a Ph.D. in European Media Policies (Scotland) UK. She
has studied and worked in education and the media in Greece, Germany, and UK,
and has worked as a full time radio journalist and programme presenter in community
and alternative radio, and she contributes to the Times Higher Educational
Supplement with articles on international, educational issues. The Journalists
Union in Athens awarded her a scholarship while studying for her undergraduate
degree in 1994. She also received a scholarship to read for a Ph.D. by Glasgow
Caledonian University from 1997 to 1999. Katharine has chaired the Junior Scholars
Network of the International Association for Mass Communication Researchers
(IAMCR) since 1998. She was elected Vice President of the IAMCR in July 2000.
She is also a member of the newly founded European Consortium for Communication
Researchers. . Katharine is co-editor of the international journal Inter/Sections.
Her research interests are international communications with an accent on communication
policy and gender and communications
