.......If you get in trouble with the law in the future, you
may have SECC law enforcement major Mike Petra to
contend with.
.......Petra is a second-year student at the Cumberland
campus. Although this Black Mountain resident lives at
home at home with his parents and younger sister, it seems
that he spends very little time there.
.......Not only is Petra a full-time student at Southeast, he
is also an EMT, a Deputy Jailer at the Harlan County Jail,
an ambulance driver, a volunteer fire- fighter, and, last but
not least, an extradition expert with the Rescue Squad.
.......Born in Cincinnati, Petra's family moved to Western
Kentucky when he was a toddler and then on to Black
Mountain when he was in grade school.
.......His scholastic achievements while attending Evarts
High School include winning National Merit Awards in
English and in Math; being named to Who's Who Among
American High School Students; competing in Governor's
Cup competition; and winning third place for a poem in
Southeast's Spring on Cloverlick competition.
.......Petra was also a member of both the academic and
math teams in high school.
.......Petra's hobbies are reading,(his favorite book is
Stephen King's "The Stand"), and surfing the internet.
.......As for future plans, Petra says, "I'd like to work in
law enforcement as an agent of the BATF( Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms), the DEA (Drug
Enforcement Agency), or as an officer with the Kentucky
State Police."
