Kevin Fillips
I found Kevin
to be a modest man. He mentioned casually "I guess what I am most proud
of is my accomplishments in Cold
Fusion." Shortly after I learned that, he showed me his solution to
the unsolvable math problem.
Not a stranger to great success,
he dug out some plays that he had written in his youth. Not many
people know that it was Kevin who actually wrote all the
plays normally attributed to William Shakespeare. Pundits always
point out that these plays are known to have
been performed at the Globe Theatre hundreds of years before he was
born. "I admit, that is where my claim seems to fall to the ground,
but I stand by it", he said flatly.
When he is not doing theoretical physics, mathematics
or writing great literature, he is often fighting crime. Deep beneath
his Kentucky home, "Stately
Fillips Manor" (La Liberté Prime), lies a deep karst cavern.
His crime lab is located in that very cavern. His Unkown Lair is
located somewhere in downtown Lexington thast gives him and his sidekick
unequaled access to all parts of the county
New Orleans, a favorite city of
his, provides an annual retreat, by way of the gracious French Quarter
Apartment he keeps.
The apartment, tucked away in the heart of the Vieux Carré, is just
a short hop from Poppy's
Grill and his favorite coffee shop, the Café
Du Monde. A morning staple for him are their Beignets.
His email correspondence with physicist
Stephen
Hawking is legendary, and the movie rights, about which, have been
picked up by
RKO
for $42 Million.
With all this going on in his life,
you would expect him to be smug. What I found was a man, that devotes a
portion of his salary to purchasing little baby ducks, themselves victims
of budget cuts, for 4H
kids in Appalachia.
When the great fog of 1995 smothered the greater bluegrass area, Kevin
outfitted a fog horn to the roof of his home, guiding his neighbors home.
In the Great Blizzard of 1997 he single-handedly taught the neighborhood
how to drive in the snow.

Brady's Bits
Kevin attended the Duluth
Campus of the University of Minnesota (UMD), drawn by its rugged Great
Lakes location and senic beauty. He later completed his graduate work at
the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Immediately after graduating UMD, he joined management in the movie theatre
circuit, Cineplex Odeon, he worked at during college. Within a year he
left and found work in the student loan business. The draw to complete
his Master's degree was great and after a short stint in the billing department
of a hospital, he quit and moved to Lexington for graduate school. "Lexington
is a beautiful city and has much grace" he said. After completing his degree,
he remained in Lexington finding work in various departments of the University,
before settling in the College of Agriculture.
He commented "Agriculture and Extension is so overlooked by most of this
country". Raised in the Twin City Metropolitan area, he has many rural
roots. "My parents grew up in the Brainerd area, in Aitkin County, Minnesota
and now own my Great Grandfather's Aitkin County Farm as a vacation home"
Kevin said. His home, La Liberté Prime, is modest, but comfortable.
Located within the circle on Lexington's east side, it is convenient to
all parts of the city. At times it is hard to believe the home is so far
inside the city. Purchased in 1995, it was built in the 1940s and is located
on Liberty Pike. |
