Help!

The Periodic Table of Comic Books is in a constant state of revision. Many of the additions and enhancements that we have made over the life of our site have resulted from comments and suggestions from our browsers. We appreciate and welcome your suggestions. There are at least three ways that you can help us improve The Periodic Table of Comic Books.

We've rebuilt the site!

After much experimentation we have rebuilt our site and have returned to a simpler format (see oxygen). We now have a consistent look and feel throughout the site, but of course, the job will never be finished, so we hope you are patient with our development.

We are aware that many browsers still have relatively slow dialup connections and that loading the full page images can be frustrating at times. After much trial and error, we have settled on somewhat larger JPEG images, which give the best viewing and hopefully the best reading in reasonable time. At one time, we planned to provide an alternative site for slow connections, but The Periodic Table of Comic Books is now so large (over 400 pages) that we have decided to abandon this plan because of the magnitude of the job. So, for now, we provide images that are about 200-300 Kb. Once again, we ask your patience. All new images are about 600 pixels wide. Jim is The Periodic Table of Comic Books Webmeister, so email him your suggestions on design and format.

Many of you have suggested that we provide more written descriptions of the comic book pages. Some pages have extensive written material (see Four Color: Ricky Nelson) while others have virtually no description at all (see The Doom Patrol). We will have complete descriptions for every page ... eventually, but this is a time-consuming process, so once again, we ask you to be patient. Jack is writing most of the descriptive material, so if you have suggestions on the descriptions, please send him an email.

If you have suggestions regarding the format, design, or content of The Periodic Table of Comic Books, please let us know by one of the methods suggested above.

How can you help?

As of 2/26/00, there over 250 full comic book pages or covers in The Periodic Table of Comic Books. Jack is an avid comic book collector and spends much time scouring comics shops, bookstores, flea markets, attics, and various online resources to find and acquire comics that are in some way related to the periodic table of the elements. Although Jim dearly loves comics, he is not really a collector, except for Uncle $crooge and Donald Duck comics. If you have suggestions regarding specific comics or characters, please email Jack.

If you are a comic book collector and/or a person interested in chemistry and comics and you know of comics that we don't have in The Periodic Table of Comic Books, please let us know by contacting Jack. If you own a comic book that has pages appropriate for the site, we are interested in hearing about it. If you have a scanner and can scan the appropriate pages, we would very much appreciate having a copy of the scan. We can arrange an electronic transfer of the scanned image as an FTP transfer, an email attachment, or other means. If you don't have a scanner, but you are willing to loan us the comic book long enough for us to scan it, please contact Jack by email, and we will arrange a safe and speedy transfer. We will of course acknowledge your contribution. If you provide a scan for us, please try to scan at 200 dpi and save the file as a JPEG with the highest possible quality setting.
