Technology Columns
Like it says on the masthead, The Lane Report is "the business and economic news magazine for Kentucky." As a matter of fact, the magazine enjoys wide-spread circulation, especially in the Bluegrass, Louisville area, and Northern Kentucky, and is a highly respected source of news for the businessmen and women of the state. I've been the regular monthly technology columnist since November 1996, and have had the pleasure of working with four editors during that time: John Bobel, Kevin Depew, John Gaver, and now Claude Hammond. The publisher, of course, is Ed Lane.
I derive a certain amount of satisfaction from writing these columns. On one hand, I simply like to write, and doing the column helps keep me current with the latest developments in technology. Not only that, but I actually enjoy taking complex material and making it accessible for my readers -- it's the teacher in me. On the other hand, I also regard the column as an important form of service to the local and state community on behalf of the School of JAT and the University of Kentucky. The information and knowledge that I am (hopefully) conveying comes to me, at least partially, through the resources of the university. I'm happy to use this opportunity to disseminate it to the state in the form of a valuable (I believe) service activity.
