This group started in 2005 as a result of the efforts of Jason Wolfgang Hicks, or Wolf. His hand drawn posters advertised meeting at a local (Lexington, Kentucky) comic store once a month. His goal then and the groups now: to have a venue where creators, writers, artists, colorists, letterers, editors and publishers could come together to share learning, ideas and inspiration.
Being able to give and get constructive feedback is essential for membership. A common interest and passion for the comics form binds us together as well as it separates us from the bulk of our common man.
Bringing together the serious student and the experienced professional in both informal and structured learning opportunities is a major part of what the group hopes to accomplish. Ushering in a better understanding of the possibilities of the comics medium to the non-comics reading population is another function the group can serve. Comics are not the negative influence to a young person's education that was the predominant thinking of years past. Instead comics can be a boon to literacy at a time when getting children to read is growing progressively more difficult. In other cultures comics are produced for and read by all age and socioeconomic groups.
