SOC 436 Instructions: Read the indicated selection(s) from Investigating Deviance;
then answer the following questions using complete sentences (or essay format when required). Number your answers. Type your answers using a 12-point Times New Roman Font, single-spaced, with 1" top, bottom, and side margins. Put your name on every sheet in the upper right hand corner in the format "Last name, First name." Put page numbers in the upper right hand corner beginning with your second page. Put SOC 436 and the assignment number in the upper left hand corner of the first sheet. Staple multiple pages together in the upper left hand corner. This assignment is worth 20 points.
Selection I: pp 43-53. 1. According to the author, what dramatic changes to the economy in the post WWII era resulted in many people being left behind, with little opportunity and even less hope? 2.
Identify the two orientations to life in the inner-city black community discussed by Anderson–and briefly describe their characteristics in terms of their values, child-rearing practices, and interaction with others.
