Scholarships Requiring University Endorsement
University endorsement is required in order to compete for the following scholarships; students may not apply directly for these awards. Please check the Events and Deadlines page for specific campus-round deadlines. Recipients of these awards will be publicly announced to UKNOW and other media sources.
Astronaut Scholarship
The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation makes an annual award to an outstanding student who exhibits motivation, imagination, and exceptional performance in STEM disciplines. Students must be U.S. citizens in order to apply.
Year to Apply: Sophomore or Junior
GPA Requirement: 3.8 or higher
Campus Deadline: January 15, 2013
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace
Carnegie Junior Fellows work as research assistants for one year conducting research for books, co-authoring papers, participating in meetings, and organizing briefings. Students with significant coursework in International Affairs, Political Science, Economics, History, or languages such as Russian, or Chinese are encouraged to apply.
Year to Apply: Senior or Recent Graduate (within 1 year)
GPA Requirement: 3.7 or above

David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship
The National Security Education Program (NSEP) provides scholarships for students to study languages abroad in regions critical to U.S. interests. Students who plan to study in Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand are not eligible. Awards are up to $10,000 per semester and in exchange for funding, students must agree to the NSEP service requirement. Students must be U.S. citizens in order to apply.
Year to Apply: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior (study abroad program must end before graduation)
GPA Requirement: No specific requirements

English-Speaking Union Scholarship
The Kentucky Branch of the ESU will award scholarships for students to take summer courses offered at three institutions in the United Kingdom: Cambridge University, Oxford University, and Edinburgh University. Students who do not have extensive experience traveling abroad are encouraged to apply.
Year to Apply: Sophomore, or Junior (preferred)
GPA Requirement: 3.8 or above
Campus Deadline: October 12, 2012
Fulbright Award
The Fulbright Program is designed to give students opportunities to pursue graduate study and research in over 100 nations. Most grants are Full or English Teaching Assistantship grants. Students must hold a Bachelor's degree prior to beginning the program.
Year to Apply: Senior, Graduate Student, or Recent Graduates
GPA Requirement: 3.0 or above

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
The Goldwater Scholarship was created to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers and foster excellence in STEM fields. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or U.S. national in order to apply.
Year to Apply: Sophomore or Junior
GPA Requirement: 3.8 or higher

Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award
The Graduate Arts Award enables students with exceptional artistic or creative promise and significant financial need to pursue up to three years of study at an accredited U.S. graduate institution. Applicants must have significant unmet financial need and plan to begin a graduate degree program in the fall of the year in which the scholarship is awarded.
Year to Apply: Senior or recent graduate (within 5 years of receiving Bachelor's degree)
GPA Requirement: 3.2 or higher

Marshall Scholarship
The Marshall Scholarship enables students to study for a graduate degree in the United Kingdom. Benefits include a personal allowance to cover living expenses, tuition, fares to and from the U.S., grant for books and approved travel in connection with studies. Students must be a U.S. citizen and have not studied at a British University. Students should also complete a bachelor's degree before taking up the award.

Mitchell Scholarship
The Mitchell Scholarships grant a student one year of graduate study in any discipline offered by an institution of higher learning in Ireland or Northern Ireland. The program provides tuition, housing, living expenses, and an international travel stipend. Applicants should be a U.S. citizen and be under the age of 30 at the time of application. Students should also complete a bachelor's degree before taking up the award.

Rhodes Scholarship
The Rhodes Scholarship enables students with demonstrated intellectual and academic achievement, integrity of character, and the ability to lead to study at Oxford University in England. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and younger than 24 years of age at the time of application. Students should also complete a bachelor's degree before taking up the award.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation awards students who wish to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government and public service. An applicant must be a U.S. citizen in the upper quarter of his or her class. Recipients of the award are required to work in public service for 3 of the 7 years following the completion of a Foundation-funded graduate degree program.
Year to Apply: Junior
GPA Requirement: 3.0 or above

Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Scholarship
The Udall Scholarship is a merit-based award to outstanding students who intend to pursue careers related to the environment. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen. Students should have environmental career goals, but all fields are eligible to apply.
Year to Apply: Sophomore or Junior
GPA Requirement: 3.0 or higher
