Help Index | Guide | Search Index Boolean Search
The Boolean operators <OR>, <AND_NOT> and <WITH> can narrow or expand a search.
Use <OR> to expand a search by entering more than one term at a time. Connecting search terms with <OR> retrieves results that match any or all of the included terms.
For example, in Word search, entering swylc retrieves 10 matches and entering swylce retrieves 24 matches, but entering swylc <OR> swylce retrieves all 34 matches in one search, while excluding instances of swylc with other endings.
Use <AND_NOT> to specify a term or terms that should be excluded from the search results.
Connecting search terms with <AND_NOT> narrows a search.
Use <WITH> to find combinations of words or word strings in a line. In Alliteration search, use <WITH> to look for specific combinations of alliterating sounds, words, or word substrings.
To activate <WITH> in Word searches, first click Combined Search:
<WITH> narrows a search by retrieving only results that match all the included terms.
