SGML Search

SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) is the international standard for descriptive encoding of electronic texts. The Edition and Transcript of Beowulf are encoded in conformance with SGML, enabling the search facilities to retrieve a wide range of tagged information.

To begin an SGML-encoded search of either Edition or Transcript, press 'SGML' on the toolbar to access an SGML search window.

To view search results with SGML tags, click 'Result' and check 'Show SGML tag' on the toolbar.

For guidelines specific to either search window, go to 'Edition Search: SGML' or 'Transcript Search: SGML'.
