Biology Study Abroad – Nova Scotian Ecosystems

 

This course will focus on the biodiversity of selected Nova Scotian ecosystems (wetlands/tidewater, Bay of Fundy, inland forests) and will include an examination of the ecological consequences of human activities on these ecosystems.  Students will spend time exploring the south shore and the incredible Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia.  Students will participate in activities such as field studies, hike along coastal trails, observe the unique flora and fauna of the region and go whale watching.  Other activities may include a candle-light tour of Lunenburg, visiting Peggy’s Cove and Acadian cultural centers, learning about the challenges of living in the Bay of Fundy, and sightseeing in Halifax.

 

Dates: August 4 – 15, 2007

Application Deadline: February 28, 2007

 

Cost: $3395.00 – includes airfare, lodging, transportation, some meals, health insurance, airport transfers.            Need to budget $400 for other meals, souvenirs, personal tours

 

Academic Credit: Three credit hours -  will count as upper-level biology elective credit for biology majors

 

Prerequisite: one semester of biology
