What to do About Accused Terrorists

You are to read the article "The Hard Cases" by Jane Mayer from The New Yorker, February 23, 2009. Click here for a pdf copy.

Your assignment is to explain in your own words precisely what the isuues are with regard to the individuals being detained (At least 1.5 pages). You are then to explain the alternatives suggested for their treatment and prosecution (at least 1.5 pages). Finally, you are to write a memo to President Obama that gives your advice as to how he should proceed and your justification (at least 2 pages). Be sure as in your journals, to keep your factual discussion parts 1 and 2) separate from your personal opinions (part 3). Your grade will depend on how well you present your analyses and discussion, and how well-reasoned, justified, and convincing your paper is.
