Accessing your files
The new machine has two new facilites which can provide you more direct access to your files. Both services are experimental and unsupported, however both have been rudimentarily tested and are in use by other organizations.
- Samba allows the machine to appear on the network as a Windows NT fileserver. Users of Windows95, WindowsNT, and Windows for Workstations, should be able to map their web user space to a drive letter on their local machine. Under Win95 and WinNT you must have the Client for MicroSoft Networks loaded, as well as TCP/IP. The web machine will likely NOT appear in your Network Neighborhood, but attempting to map //www/userid should succeed, as should a Search. (note: before Tuesday Jan. 21, you will need to look for demo29 instead of www)
- NetAtalk provides AppleTalk connectivity. Simply select the UKCC Systems Zone from the Chooser, and then select the www (demo29 until 1/21/97) fileserver...login using your web userid and password.
