Stacey Greenwell
Stacey Greenwell is Head of the Information Commons at the University of Kentucky. Often cited by students as one of the most popular spots on campus, the Information Commons combines a technology help desk and computer lab with a traditional library reference desk. From 2001-2006, Stacey served as Desktop Support Librarian and then as Head of Desktop Support, providing technology management and technical consultation to library employees. A faculty member at the university since 2001, she earned tenure in 2007.
Stacey is active on a number of campus committees and working groups such as the Instructional Computing Committee and the Social Media Brainstorming Group. She serves as liaison to the English Department which includes selecting library materials focused on English language and literature as well as providing library instruction for the English Department. She is currently serving as Chair of the University Libraries Faculty Council. She is chairing the campus working group which is developing a proposal for a new Research Commons in the library, focused on faculty and graduate student needs.
Active in the Special Libraries Association since 2001, Stacey is a member of the Kentucky Chapter and of the Academic, Information Technology, and Leadership and Management Divisions. She was inducted into the SLA Fellows in 2009. Stacey has served the Information Technology Division in a number of roles, including Chair in 2007 and Program Planner in 2005. Leading the petition drive to launch the Academic Division in 2008, she is the division’s first Chair. A member of the Centennial Commission/2009 Annual Conference Planning Committee, Stacey is also serving on the 2010 Annual Conference Planning Committee.
Stacey is a proud SLA Kentucky Chapter member and serves as the Chapter’s blog manager. She has served the Chapter in multiple roles including Secretary and Bulletin Editor. She was awarded the Chapter’s Professional Award in 2006 and the Chapter’s Outstanding Member Award in 2008.
Stacey is a 2009 Frye Leadership Institute Fellow and was recently awarded the Lyrasis NextGen Librarian Award for Leadership. She has taught in the library school at Western Kentucky University and is frequently invited to speak at conferences on technology-related topics (view recent presentations). Stacey writes about information commons, library, and technology issues on The Uncommon Commons blog and is a co-author on the Translational Technologies blog.
Stacey graduated from the University of Kentucky’s MLS program in 1998. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Kentucky, graduating cum laude in 1996. In fall 2009, she began the doctoral program in Instructional Systems Design from the University of Kentucky's College of Education.
