Professor John Stempel

 
 

John Stempel served 23 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, including postings in Guinea, Burundi, Zambia, and Iran and a three-year tour as U.S. Consul General in Madras, India. His service in Teheran provided material for his book Inside the Iranian Revolution. He taught previously at the U.S. Naval Academy, joining the Patterson School in 1988. From 1993-2003, he served as the Patterson School's director. In 2005, Professor Stempel was on sabbatical at Virginia Military Institute.

Dr. Stempel is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and also is a member of the Georgetown College Board of Trustees. His book, Common Sense and Foreign Policy was published on Oct. 8, 2008.
