Definition 
 
   The annotated bibliography is an important research tool which compiles the major texts written on a particular subject and  provides a brief analytical summary of each entry.  The annotated bibliography is designed to allow its readers to decide quickly and accurately whether any particular text will prove useful to their own work.
 
    The annotated bibliography has three main components:

• bibliographic information (i.e., author, title, publisher, etc.)
• thorough, accurate, objective summary
• brief analysis (if necessary)

Assignment
 

• Go to the library and locate a journal article (those of you with last names beginning A-K) or a book (last names beginning L-Z) written on the following topic: the debate between utilization vs. preservation of the environment.  The text you choose can treat a specific debate (e.g., grazing, mining, or harvesting timber in a particular national park)  or it could discuss the matter in broader terms of ethics, values, and beliefs ( like the philosophical treatises  we've read by Crevecoeur and Thoreau).
• Annotate your chosen text and send your entry to me via e-mail (do not use an attachment) by Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998.
