Welcome to Professor Ulack's course homepage
Hi! Welcome to the homepage for Professor Richard Ulack's courses for the Fall semester, 2006.
Let me take this opportunity to provide you with some background information about myself. I grew up in Long Island, New York and after high school journeyed to Florida where I completed my undergraduate work at Stetson University (B.A., 1964) in DeLand, majoring in Geography and History. After three years of service in the U.S. Army in Germany (1964-1967), I continued my education at The Pennsylvania State University, where I earned both the M.S. (1969) and Ph.D. (1972) degrees. Following three years of teaching at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, I joined the faculty of the Department of Geography at the University of Kentucky in Fall, 1974. Except for several leaves of absence to conduct research and teaching abroad in the Philippines and Fiji, I have been at UK ever since. My areas of research specialization include population geography, migration, Third World development, and tourism in the Third World. Administrative duties included two terms as Chair of the Department of Geography from 1988-1996. Recent publications include the Atlas of Kentucky and Southeast Asia: Diversity and Development. My wife, Karen, and I have two married children, Jessica and Christopher.
Please don't hesitate to stop by my office during Fall, 2006 (Patterson Office Tower #1465) should you want to discuss course-related matters, your university experience, or any other matters. I am also happy to discuss with you the opportunities that a major (or minor) in geography would give you; so if you would like to discuss a major with B.A. degree or B.S. degree or a minor please stop by and let's talk. During the Fall semester my office hours are on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 and Friday from 8:30-11:30. If those times are not convenient, email me at ulack@uky.edu, or phone me at 257-6949.
