The water ski club at the University of Kentucky was started by a few members of the UK Snow Ski club. The water ski club was organized in 1983. It quickly grew to be one of the most popular clubs on campus, growing to almost 90 members in the first few years.
The water ski club is unofficially two parts, the ski team and the ski club. Team members are club members that compete in the SAC (South Atlantic Conference) where we have compedted since the club was founded. Traditionally club and team members have the same responsibilities for keeping the club going and equipment in good shape. For this reason when it comes to practice time and other club activities everyone is treated equally.
In the past UK's Ski Team has been known as the Best of The Rest. This nick-name comes from the idea that UK is the best of the teams that do not give there members scholarships. Some teams in the SAC are sponsored by their university and are able to recruit skiers and are able to give those skiers scholarships. About half of the teams in the SAC are able to do this. The other half of the teams are the ones which we compete with most fiercely, and we believe that we are the best of the teams that can not give their skiers scholarships.
Therefore we are the BEST OF THE REST!
