This project is designed to be a multi-faceted learning experience. You’ll get to do research on a topic you’re interested in, and present it to an audience. This project will be an exercise of:
Research: Get to know your library, use the materials available to you.
Organizational skills: Arrange your thoughts into a coherent, easily followed pattern
Delivery: You might have some anxiety about speaking in front of a group. This exercise will give you an opportunity to learn what your weaknesses and strengths are.
Critical thinking and listening: Ask questions to the presenters; learn about their intent, organization, and support of their ideas.
Form of the paper
You MUST use outside sources to support your argument. You should use (at least!!!) 7 sources and 3 of them (at most!!!) can be from internet. Thus you will need to use BOOKs or journals. You can use the internet sites which are at the end of each issue in Rourke, but make sure that you cite the address, and the date that you entered the web-site. Use InfoKat, Expanded Academic ASAP, or online journals which are available through UK’s Libraries web page for your other sources.
The paper should be 8 pages long, without the bibliography. Use Times New Roman (12), double-space the document.
A tentative outline for your presentation might be as
follows:
Tips for Writing:
Be consistent!
Use whatever you learned in high school, Chicago or AP but be consistent. Capitalize, punctuate.
Proofread!
Little mistakes can be disruptive as big ones. Know the difference between its and it’s, between you’re and your.
Use a roadmap!
Know where you’re going. Have an introduction and a conclusion. Summarize your points.
Overall, have fun! Get to know different points of views, be
creative in your presentation, you can use visual aids if you want to, but let
me know before the presentation date so that I can arrange the classroom.
