Kevin J. Harvatine grew up on his family's successful dairy farm in northeastern Pennsylvania. He was active in 4-H with projects that included a small herd of registered Angus, a few sows, and show ewes on the family farm. At Penn State he has achieved a GPA of 3.90, and that placed him in the top 1% of the College of Agriculture. He was awarded Highest Distinction at graduation. While at Penn State the Block and Bridle Club quickly became one of Kevin's main activities and has taught him leadership, communication, and organization skills. Harvatine's most inspiring experience of the past four years was participating in the Collegiate Livestock Leaders Institute. He was active in serving as censor and was on the National Foundation Board of Alpha Zeta Fraternity. Kevin also has enjoyed being a member of the Ag Advocates, a group selected by the dean to represent the College of Agriculture. At the ADSA meeting this past summer he presented a poster titled "The Effect of Feed Physical Form on In Situ Digestion Kinetics." This fall he will enter graduate school at Michigan State University in ruminant nutrition with a University Distinguished Graduate Fellowship. His long-term goal is to return to industry as a technical service consultant so that he can help producers remain viable and profitable.
