1994-1995

First Place

Erin K. Pettigrew
South Dakota State University

Erin K. Pettigrew was raised on a commercial beef, hog, and grain farm in north central South Dakota. Starting at a young age, she took an active role in daily chores. Through 4-H beef, swine, public speaking, and photography projects, she gained valuable experience and leadership skills. By spending a summer in Japan through a 4-H exchange, she gained appreciation for another culture. After high school, Erin chose to attend South Dakota State University to major in animal science and agricultural journalism. As an undergraduate, she has maintained a 3.64 GPA while being extremely active in many clubs and organizations both on and off campus, including, Block and Bridle, Ag Communicators of Tomorrow, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Delta, Alpha Zeta, Mortar Board, Collegiate 4-H, and the South Dakota Pork Youth Ambassador Program. Upon graduation, Erin plans to pursue a master's degree in agricultural communications and then work for a livestock publication, advertising agency, or commodity group in the Midwest.

Second Place

Nathan D. Voris
University of Missouri

Nathan D. Voris was raised on a cattle operation near Walnut Grove, Missouri, where they raise Holstein heifers and steers and manage his grandfather's cow-calf enterprise. Following high school, Nathan chose to attend the university of Missouri-Columbia to major in animal sciences. Throughout his undergraduate career, he has been very active in the Block and Bridle Club as well as Ag Council, Student Relations Board, Ag Alumni, Alpha Zeta, FFA Alumni, and several Dean's committees. Nathan has received numerous scholarships and maintained a 3.33 GPA during his undergraduate career. He has been accepted into the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and plans to become a large animal practitioner near his hometown after graduation.

Third Place

Rosemary D. Bowen
North Carolina State University

Rosemary D. Bowen grew up on a small farm in Stokes County, North Carolina, where they raise tobacco, small grains, hay, Angus cattle, and Tennessee Walking Horses. She entered North Carolina State University following graduation from high school to double major in animal science and agricultural business management. As an undergraduate, Rosemary earned a 3.97 GPA while being actively involved in Block and Bridle, Pre-Vet Club, Marching Band, NACTA, Phi Eta Sigma, Golden Key, and Phi Kappa Phi. After graduation from NCSU, Rosemary plans to attend the College of Veterinary Medicine at NCSU and become a large animal practitioner.
