First Place

Wayne Edward Sanders
Texas A&M University

Wayne Sanders is a native of Bryan, Texas where he was nurtured in the agricultural industries through involvement in the American-International Junior Charolais Association. He was extraordinarily active in 4-H programs, including serving as a member of the State 4-H Council and as a member of the Texas 4-H livestock judging team. Wayne received a B.S. in animal science in May of 1999 with a 3.74 on a 4.0 scale GPA. During his four years at A&M, he compiled an unparalled record of extracurricular accomplishments including being a member of very successful wool and meat animal evaluation judging teams. He served in a number of leadership roles, including president of the A&M Saddle and Sirloin Club and as a host coordinator of the 1999 National Block and Bridle convention held in Fort Worth. Wayne is currently completing an agriculture and natural resource policy internship with U.S. House member Pete Sessions. He will enroll in law school at the University of Texas in August 2000. Recognition in this award has become a Sanders family tradition. Wayne's sister, Amy, was a recipient in 1994.

Second Place

Kelly Reed Ingham
Colorado State University

Kelly Ingham is a native of Whitefish, Montana where she was raised on a cattle and horse ranching operation. She was very active in 4-H horse and beef cattle programs as a youth. Kelly will graduate from Colorado State University in December 1999 with a double major in animal science and agricultural business, with concentrations in computer science and French. She has been a participant in the University Honors Program and has been heavily involved in extracurricular activities including leadership positions in Block and Bridle, Collegiate Cattlewomen, Alpha Phi Omega, Ag Council and Golden Key. She was recently named to Mortar Board. Kelly also participated as a member of CSU's meats and wool intercollegiate judging teams and served as co-coordinator of the 1998 National Block and Bridle Convention in Denver. Even with all of these extracurricular activities, Kelly has been able to maintain academic excellence, acquiring a cumulative grade point average of 3.81 on a 4.0 scale. Upon graduation, Kelly will enroll in the MBA program at Stanford University in August 2000. She hopes to pursue a career in electronically based international commerce.
Third Place

Londa Vander Wal
South Dakota State University

Londa Vander Wal grew up on a diversified livestock and crop farm in eastern South Dakota. She was active in 4-H and FFA beef, swine and sheep projects and was an outstanding high school athlete earning 13 varsity letters, being named All-State in basketball and being chosen as a national high school Heisman finalist in her senior year. Londa will graduate in December 1999 with an animal science degree with a food science option from South Dakota State University. She plans to study during fall 1999 at Harper Adams University in Shropshire, England to complete her requirements. She has maintained a 3.92 GPA on a 4.0 scale while being heavily involved in Block and Bridle, Institute of Food Technologists, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and student residence hall associations. Additionally, Londa was a member of meats and wool judging teams and was a member of SDSU's track team, earning recognition as a NCAA Division II Academic All-American in each of the last three years. Upon graduation, Londa plans to pursue graduate study in meat science.
