What is Collegiate Livestock Leaders Institute?
Objective: To encourage development of future livestock industry leaders through exposure to, and interaction with, current leaders involved in the beef industry and to allow involvement with activities of national commodity and scientific organizations. Who is Eligible? Any undergraduate university student who has completed a minimum of 90 semester credit hours (end of "junior" year) that is actively working towards a degree with either a major or minor in animal science and is a member of a local affiliate of the National Block and Bridle organization on their home campus. What Commitment is Required if Selected? Up to ten students will be selected for the program. Selected students will attend the American Society of Animal Science meeting in July. Students will also meet for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Summer Conference in July. How do I Apply? Applications for this program must be completed with the assistance of the local Block and Bridle advisor and department chairperson. Nomination forms are mailed to the local club advisor mid-fall semester. Only one nominee will be considered per university. Additionally, an essay of 2,000 words or less, written by the nominee in answer to a question should be included. How Will Selections be Made? A panel of evaluators will be asked to rank the nominees based on their respective applications. This panel will be made up of national Block and Bridle officers, ASAS representatives, NCBA representatives, and CLLI director. Phone interviews with representatives from each sponsoring agency may also be a part of the selection process. When Will Selections be Announced? The ten recipients will be announced at the awards banquet at the upcoming National Block and Bridle Convention. Who are the Financial Sponsors of the Program? The costs of this program are paid by the American Society of Animal Science, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and the National Block and Bridle Club. Additionally, the home institution of each student must verify with the nomination packet that they will cover $700 of the student’s travel expenses. What Will the Award Cover? The student recipients will receive all travel expenses (airfare, lodging, meals, registrations) to the two meetings. All workshop programming and speaker costs will be paid by the program sponsors.
