From Your President,
Jeannette Moore, Ph.D.:

"It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect it's successful outcome."

_William James

The Fall semester is in full swing, and the Block & Bridle Convention will be here before we know it. This is the 86th convention, and it is hosted by The Ohio State University Saddle & Sirloin Club and will be held in Columbus, Ohio on October 20 to 23, 2005 in conjunction with the Quarter Horse Congress. There will be tours to beef and other agricultural enterprises, and it looks like the educational sessions will be excellent as well. You can get to the convention website from our national webpage at: www.blockandbridle.org. Please note: Each chapter needs to designate two voting delegates, and the delegates and chapter Advisor need to attend the Business Meeting on Saturday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. At this meeting, the delegates will vote on future convention sites as well as new National Officers.

This group of national officers have been great to work with, and I want to publicly thank Dr. Cindy Wood, Dr. Nevil Speer, and Dr. Jodi Sterle for the outstanding service they have given to National Block and Bridle. Dr. Nevil Speer has found himself over-committed with other obligations and has asked to not be on the ballot for Vice President. Nevil, thank you so much for all you have done with the new B&B website and for all you did with the Collegiate Livestock Leaders program when it was active.

The nominating committee (which consists of recent Past Presidents) puts one name forward for each office, and the following have agreed to be on the ballot for national office: Dr. Cindy Wood (Virginia Tech) for President, Dr. Ed Brokaw (Abilene Christian) for Vice President, and Dr. Debra Aaron (University of Kentucky) for Editor. Dr. Jodi Sterle's position of Secretary/Treasurer continues for two more years. The nominations remain open until the voting at the Business Meeting in Ohio.

Chapters: Remember to bring your scrapbook to the convention to enter in the competition. Please also go to the national website and click on "Abstracts" because at the time this is going to press, only three chapters submitted 2004/2005 abstracts! If your chapter is not on the list, please send your abstract as soon as possible to Dr. Speer at Nevil.Speer@wku.edu.

The 87th convention will be in Orlando, Florida in January of 2007. Beyond that, the conventions have not been officially declared, but there will be a bid presented for the 88th convention to be held in Kansas City (in conjunction with the American Royal) for Fall of 2007. This is one of the items the two delegates from your chapter will be voting on at the convention.

At this time, no chapter has come forward to indicate an interest in hosting the 89th National Convention in November 2008 or January 2009. If your chapter is interested, please let any of the national officers know.

If there is anything that any of your national officers can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to ask. Our contact information is on the B&B webpage, and we are happy to help whenever we can.

See you soon!
