Spring Newsletter
Volume 4, Issue 1 - March, 1998

From Your President,
Dr. Ronnie Green:

I hope this spring newsletter finds your chapter having a great semester filled with a lot of fun and educational Block and Bridle activities.

The 78th National Block and Bridle Convention is now history! The Colorado State students and staff did a great job in pulling off the largest convention on record with 960 registered attendees from 61 chapters present in Denver. I have never been prouder of a group of folks than I was of our planning committee of 70 Colorado State students. We have appreciated the many nice cards, notes, e-mails, and phone calls that many of you have sent us since the meeting. Next year's meeting will be jointly hosted by Texas A&M and Tarleton State University (see back page). We also extend our congratulations to the University of Georgia chapter on their successful bid to host the last meeting of this century in 2000 in Atlanta. If your chapter is interested in putting in a bid for the convention in 2001, we are looking for you... just contact one of the national officers.

Your national organization is in excellent shape as we enter our 79th year. We are financially sound, have experienced an increase in new membership the past few years, and have moved to electronic publication of annual reports and events through the national B&B web page. I feel very honored to serve as national president the next two years with an outstanding set of folks. All of us are committed to making the organization grow beyond its current bounds. For me personally, it is a way to pay back the organization for a wonderful experience as a B&B'er at Virginia Tech from 1979-83!

As we send you this newsletter, we are building new programs that you will be hearing about in the future with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the American Society of Animal Science, and the American Quarter Horse Association. These new activities are being developed in response to the strategic planning recommendations of a task force presented at the national convention in Orlando last year. We also have entered into discussions with Rocky Mountain Clothing Company, the maker of ARockies@ jeans. This company has approached us with interest in becoming our Aofficial@ organization sponsor and clothier. More on all of these developments will be presented to your advisors at the summer advisor's luncheon at the ASAS/ADSA meeting in Denver in July (Wed, July 29th, 12:00-1:30 pm; location to be announced). We hope to see all of you advisors there.

We are pleased to welcome three new chapter affiliates to the national organization this year. Petitions for national affiliation were approved at the Denver convention for Chico State University (California), Murray State University (Kentucky), and Colby Community College (Kansas). Welcome to all of you at these schools and we look forward to a long association with you.

Best wishes for an awesome spring in your parts of the world. Make sure you get all of your chapter=s awards applications, updates on officers and advisors, and chapter abstracts in before you leave your campus for the summer. The deadlines for all of these items are described on page 2 of this newsletter and on the Block & Bridle web page. If there is anything that any of your national officers can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to ask. See you down the road YY

Ronnie D. Green, Ph.D.
National President
