I am currently working on the Arabidopsis Protein Isoaspartyl Methyltransferase (PIMT) project in the Downie lab. My work has focused on helping David Martin develop a screen to determine if the loss of PIMT function compromises the ability of the cell to repair proteins crucial for the maintenance of genome integrity. Together, David and I are constructing a plasmid containing a non-essential marker gene with which to test this hypothesis, first in E. coli, and ultimately in planta.
