White grubs may be abundant in fields following sod or severe grassy weeds in row crops, or where manure has been spread extensively. Several species of white grubs occur in Kentucky.
White grubs prune roots of the plant. The damage is gradual and affected plants wilt or show signs of drought stress. Injury usually shows up about 2 - 4 weeks after plant emergence.
Soil insect pressure can be high in NO-TILL corn planted directly into ESTABLISHED SOD. Use of a soil insecticide is recommended when planting corn directly into sod because of the high probability of damaging populations of soil insects.
There are no rescue treatments.
Best results can be expected when the insecticide is placed directly in the furrow. Both seed and
granular insecticide should be covered with soil immediately after application.
