Watch Walking with Dinosaurs- episode 3, Cruel Sea (I hour)
<You can watch this on line, Netflix, or go to the AV center in the basement of the W.T. Young Library and check out a hard copy of the DVD>

In the movie, take notes on these :
Liopleurodon (a pliosaur)
Ophthalmosaurus (an ichthyosaur)
Cryptoclidus (a plesiosaur)
Ammonite
Sponges and corals on the sea floor

Homework:
1) Write a summary of the marine creatures shown in the movie (1-2 pages).  Compare their body shapes or body parts to modern marine creatures if possible. Then compare what is actually known about Liopleurodon from fossils and what is shown in the movie. Use at least two reference sources.

2) Go to: Fossils at the W.T. Young Library; https://www.uky.edu/KGS/education/YoungFossils-11.pdf

This is a key to fossils in the floor and benches of the W.T. Young library. The rock is from the same age as the rock and fossils the movie was based on.  Find an ammonite and sponge in the fossil floor.  Look for several examples.  The rock slabs are cut at different angles to bedding, which results in different appearances for some of the fossils. Take pictures or draw examples and include with your homework.
